Interested in participating in the Spring 2026 Outbound Hope Mission but unable to participate as a player? Consider joining us as a Non-Player Character (NPC)!
NPC‘s are actors responsible for portraying character roles required to drive story forward. While these roles do not come with direct financial compensation, participating NPC’s will recieve:
- Complimentary airport shuttle service from MBS International Airport
- Room and board on the USS Edson
- Alternatively, NPC’s may gain access to the Windfall group rate in upgrading themselves to a local hotel
- Event swag
- Discounts and opportunities toward future Windfall Entertainment events like Outbound Hope
NPC RESPONSIBILITIES
NPC’s are asked to participate from Noon on Thursday through 1PM on Sunday of their designated weekends.
They will be assigned to a specific NPC Coordinator, who will also be their primary point of contact.
Prior to the event, all NPC’s should:
- Review published game world lore.
- Review published game rule book to ensure an understanding of game mechanics.
- Will review any key creature / character profiles provided by the NPC Coordinator or Story Team.
- MAY be invited to participate in Zoom calls with the Story Team to prepare for the event.
NPCs are invited to but not required to bring any personal costuming items or props they may find useful.
This EXCLUDES prop / replica weaponry or similes of controlled substances of ANY kind.
During the event, all NPC’s should:
- Attend Pre-Game workshops alongside the Player Characters.
- Work alongside the MMLC coordinators to deliver necessary combat plots (on ship and at offsite locations).
- Work alongside the Story Team, at the direction of the NPC Coordinator, to deliver necessary story roles.
- Take initiative in their own self care (rest, hydration, consumption of meals, hygiene) and work with the NPC Coordinator should they have additional needs (naps, etc).
- Ensure any MMLC and OHM property used (laser tag weapons, costumes, props) are returned in good working order and an organized manner – items requiring repair due to expected wear and tear are to be flagged to the NPC Coordinator.
After the event, all NPC’s should:
- Attend a short, online post-game debrief with the Story Team.
- Continue to maintain the confidentiality of any story details.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS
- All volunteers are expected to follow the
Code of Conduct and published
Ruleset. Cast can and will be dismissed from the project for Code of Conduct violations.
- Volunteers are required to act with discretion and professionalism* exceeding the Code of Conduct.
- *Professionalism in this Context: Competence and appropriate demeanor, representing the views and values of Windfall Entertainment, LLC, and the project as a whole.
- Volunteers are asked to adhere to the alcohol and substance policies of the USS Edson and the Saginaw Valley Naval Ship Museum. Volunteers found to be impaired beyond their ability to perform their duties in a safe and regulated
manner will be dismissed.
- All volunteers are asked to help enforce player safety and adherence to the Code of Conduct while on-site. Player safety and well-being always takes priority over any in-character matters.
- In-character volunteers are asked to stay in-character in all (non-emergency) instances within in-character locales. When out-of-character conversations are deemed necessary, volunteers should move into out-of-character areas or
(at the very least) out of earshot of players.
- Volunteers are asked to remain professional in all online forums before, during, and after the event. Volunteers are asked to not help moderate community forums (Discord, etc.)
- All on-site volunteers must arrive by 12 p.m. on the day named in the corresponding description (unless otherwise specified).
- Volunteers are asked to keep all story and player details confidential. The only game elements a volunteer member should discuss openly are those already made publicly available on the event website, Discord or social media.
- Volunteer conflicts and personnel issues should be brought directly to the NPC Coordinator or Event Director. Issues regarding the Event Director should be brought before the Assistant Director or Event Producer.
